When people think about Florida lifestyle, they’re thinking about Clearwater Beach. There are many reasons Clearwater Beach homes for sale are so desirable. From miles of award-winning sugar sand beaches on warm Gulf waters, to fishing, sailing, boating, and watersports, or to fine dining and locally caught seafood that is only a few hours old, Clearwater Beach is the epitome of Florida living. Because it is an island, completely surrounded by water, it is a haven for boaters, sailors, skiers, fishermen, and everyone else that loves the water and an active outdoor lifestyle. Clearwater Beach has 2 1/2 miles of beautiful Gulf beach to enjoy, and a short ferry ride will get you to Caladesi Island State Park, a pristine piece of natural Florida. Hop across the bridge and enjoy the Cleveland Street district in downtown Clearwater, or take in the sunset on historic Pier 60 as you browse the work of local artisans and performers.
Clearwater Beach is home to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, which has been rescuing and rehabilitating sick and injured marine animals for more than 45 years. Built from an obsolete sewage treatment plant, the aquarium attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Clearwater Beach area every year. The aquarium’s most famous resident is of course Winter, a bottlenose dolphin that was rescued in 2005 with her tail caught in a crab trap. Her injuries resulted in the loss of her tail, and the subsequent effort to fit her with a prosthetic tail is the foundation of the film Dolphin Tale, and its’ sequel, Dolphin Tale 2 stars Hope, another rescued juvenile dolphin that now resides permanently at the aquarium.
Besides Winter and her friend Hope, you can see other dolphins, otters, sea turtles, nurse sharks, stingrays, pelicans, and more. The aquarium is currently undergoing a massive expansion that will add a two-story dolphin tank, expanded rehab facilities, a movie theater, a food court, and an expanded parking lot. CMA places a strong emphasis on educational programs, with field trips, camps, teaching resources, boat and kayak tours and more, so it’s fun and educational for kids of any age. It’s a fantastic facility that adults will love as much as the kids do!
When you have a beach this beautiful, it would be a shame to not make it the backdrop for great events year-round, another key reason Clearwater Beach homes for sale are in such high demand. Clearwater Beach has several big family-friendly events each year, events like the annual Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival. This ten day festival features amazing sand sculptures crafted over days by meticulous artists, punctuated by concerts on the beach, movies on the sand, jugglers and street performers, sand sculpting classes, fireworks, great food and drink, and more! The Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival has something for for everyone, so bring your beach chair and sunscreen.
Another fantastic event is the Clearwater Super Boat National Championship and Seafood Festival, held annually in September. These aren’t pleasure craft; these boats feature 6,000 horsepower engines and reach speeds of 180 mph on the water! Last year, an estimated 180,00 visitors attended this three day event on Clearwater Beach. Besides the exciting racing, there are also parades, block parties, concerts, food vendors, local craft beers, fireworks, and more. You can watch from the shore or from the balcony of a hotel room overlooking the course, or if you want to be as close to the action as possible, you can watch from a boat. But even if you don’t live on Clearwater Beach, it’s still easy to reach from Clearwater just across the bridge, or from neighboring Indian Rocks Beach, just to the south.
